What to Do When You Just Don't Want to Get Out of Bed

Last night I listened to this podcast, an interview with Sally Clarkson after the release of her 2015 book, Own Your Own Life.  The idea that struck me most occurred about half way through the interview.

Sally recounted a time a young, depressed mom had come to her for advice. The mom was so stressed and tired she struggled getting out of bed in the morning. Sally's advice was wash your dishes, make two beds and then go to town. Buy yourself flowers or go to to a coffee shop to get your kids hot chocolate while you enjoy your favorite drink.

I loved this advice. I blended the practical with the beautiful. Need to do with want to do.

If you are struggling today, I challenge to take Sally's advice, Wash your dishes and then go buy yourself flowers. Throw in a load of laundry and then sit and color with your kids. Do one thing that needs to be done, then something that fills your cup.

Life if busy. There will always be things to do and things we wish we were doing better. The challenge is to find beauty and peace in moments when life isn't perfect and live those moments. Those are the moments that make life beautiful.

Kristen is a wife and mother who likes to pretend that she can cook, write and create. She is a little compulsive when it comes to cleaning and organizing and has an ever growing love of dark chocolate, tea and Jane Austen. But mostly, she is a woman trying to figure out how to live a life she can be proud of.
